About Me
My name is Paula S. Faria and I am a professional translator specialized in audiovisual translation, that is, subtitling and dubbing scripts. I work with the languages English and Brazilian Portuguese. I have an undergraduate and a graduate degree in English Language and Literature from one of the best universities in Brazil, Federal University of Minas Gerais.
As soon as a graduated I started working as an English teacher. I have taught at great language schools in Belo Horizonte, including the Extension Centre at Federal University of Minas Gerais, Cultura Inglesa and the MBA school IBS at Fundação Getúlio Vargas.
However, my interest was turned towards translation and I have been working as a translator and reviser for over 15 years, which allowed me to hone my skills and expand my knowledge of the details and nuances of good translation. I am also always aware of the ever-changing cultural context of each translation, which is a crucial feature in audiovisual translation.
I have translated over 100k minutes of video, which include episodes in over 100 different TV shows and over 60 films, including the most challenging genres such as musicals, comedy, stand up, adult animation and fantasy.
Although I am specialized in audiovisual, I have also worked with text translation in several areas of knowledge, such as dentistry, applied social sciences, gamification, physical education, arts, urbanization, engineering, psychology, biology, science, law and digital forensics, among others.
I am passionate about translation and languages and I am always looking to learn more and grow as a professional and as person.
